Subject: song/poem for townes Date: Sun, 17 Sep 2000 12:28:55 +0200 From: "Horst Schrader" To: coopl@ava.bcc.orst.edu hi, while I was looking for that rare DIRTY OLD TOWN vinyl single I came across your website. saw so many poems / songs as a tribute to him, and thought you might like to include a song that I wrote shortly after learning that his body was no longer with us. I sent it to NO DEPRESSION magazine who printed it in their letter section, sang it to my wife, with my friend peter, but it has never been recorded. well, here it is, called ADIOS ADIOS all of his friends they did agree he was too fragile for this world one of these men with broken hearts alone & lost youŽd never see it in his eyes you could hear it in his voice when he whispered soft & low well, adios the morning papers said he died on the first day of the year that mournful day when ole Hank did pass away he had a way with words & songs that could make an old man cry he sang the blues & you just knew he paid the cost he must have had a soul as big as the West Texas plains & he never said goodbye just adios take care horsed
